Dr Dave Ewen retires from general practice

After nearly 38 years in general practice, Dr Dave Ewen retired from South City Health on 28 October.

Dave had known he wanted to be a doctor since he started boarding school at the age of 9. He went to medical school in Dunedin where he meet his wife Sue, then landed his first job in Hamilton – and he’s been in Hamilton ever since.

Dave bought his first practice and moved in on 1 September 1984. Dr Duncan Roberts joined him three years later "knocking holes in the walls", and as a result Melville Medical Centre was ‘born’. Dave ultimately moved on and built South City Health in July 1998.

On his last day Dave commented “I would do it all over again!”
